In our wonderfully robust Australian culture, when asked, “how are you?” we tend to automatically say “good thanks,” when in reality, we are struggling.
Putting on a brave face can be exhausting and isolating. Especially at times involving an intense loss. Grieving is deeply personal and complex. It can be difficult to share how we are feeling, as we try to protect ourselves and others from the pain.
Grief isn’t just sadness, it is a psychological response involving many different emotions and physiological changes. Nothing prepares us for losses that tear our worlds apart. Whether it be the death of a family member, close friend or beloved pet. Or losses caused by changes in health, the breakdown of a relationship, relocation, children leaving home, retirement or redundancy. Significant loss impacts our emotional and physical wellbeing, our confidence, our security and our future.
At times like these, counselling can help. Offering a balance of active listening and collaborative, evidence-based support, it is not just about warmth, it is a structured therapeutic alliance, aimed at helping clients to safely process emotions, and develop personalised ways to navigate their individual experience.
Counselling can help to alleviate issues often associated with grief such as social isolation, anxiety, depression, stress and feelings of overwhelm, sleepless nights and racing thoughts.
About Corrine
Meet the counsellor
Corrine has lived most of her life in rural locations across the Geelong region and is now settled in Aireys Inlet, adjusting to life as an empty nester and recently becoming a grandparent. With over 30 years of experience working in health and education, undertaking further studies in mental health and counselling felt like a natural progression.
Corrine loves being with people and has an innate desire to support the health and happiness of others. Her approach to counselling is open and friendly, balanced with complete privacy and confidentiality. When relaxing, Corrine can be found doing anything that gets her outdoors and enjoying our amazing surrounds.
Corrine is a registered member of the Australian Counselling Association.
